The Week 3 slate in college football isn’t the most impressive up and down the board, but there are several marquee matchups that have the potential to shape some of the conference and playoff races early on in the season.
College Gameday will be on hand at the campus of North Dakota State this Saturday, making their second appearance in as many years. The powerhouse FCS school has really made an impression on the college football scene, and you can expect the campus to be rocking.
But the biggest matchup of the weekend has to take place in the SEC, with the No.6 Georgia Bulldogs visiting Columbia to take on the No.24 South Carolina Gamecocks. Georgia hasn’t won in South Carolina since 2008, and hasn’t scored more than 20 points in Williams-Brice Stadium since the 1990s.
But many believe that this Georgia team has the potential to score a lot more than 20 points if their opening week victory over Clemson is any indicator. The Bulldogs are the slight one-point road favorite. Lead by running back Todd Gurley, Georgia has the expectation to contend for one of the four playoff spots and a win on Saturday will go a long way to helping that cause.
That is the only ranked matchup this week, but other games include No.12 UCLA taking on Texas in Arlington, and No.4 Oklahoma hosting Tennessee. The latter is the ABC prime time game kicking off at 8 pm ET.
The Sooners might dislike the SEC more than most teams, especially head coach Bob Stoops. Tennessee isn’t exactly one of the powerhouse teams in the conference, but they can put up a fight. Oddsmakers at Bovada Sportsbook do not believe it will be much of one though, installing the Volunteers as three-touchdown underdogs on the road. The 21-point betting line is certainly high, which means that those taking Tennessee will get 20 points to play with.
UCLA and Texas kick off at 8 pm alongside Oklahoma and Tennessee. The Longhorns are coming off an embarrassing defeat at home to BYU and will be upset-minded against the Bruins. UCLA is favored by 7.5 points. This game can be seen on FOX.
