The college football landscape changes week to week, and entering this upcoming Saturday there is the potential for big change once again.
It starts with the No.1 team in the country.
The Mississippi State Bulldogs arguably will face their most difficult challenge all season, going on the road to Tuscaloosa to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide. College Game Day will be on the scene to kick things off in the morning and the atmosphere should be rocking.
The Miss St vs. Alabama game is one of several that could have big implications. In fact, the No.2 team in the country will be on the road as well in a tough matchup. The Florida State Seminoles go on the road to face a Miami Hurricanes team that has played very well over the last several weeks, winning each of their last three games by at least 21 points.
Actually, where the FSU vs. Miami betting line was released by BetOnline Sportsbook, it was surprising to many. Florida State is just a two-point favorite upon the initial release. It’s no secret that the Seminoles have been a shell o themselves from a season ago, but this is also a team that has won 25 games in a row. And let’s not forget that the reigning Heisman Trophy winner is still under center as well.
That didn’t stop oddsmakers from setting this point spread close, and it could be very interesting to see how this one plays out because Florida State has not been good a covering the spread this season.
Switching back to the Crimson Tide and Bulldogs matchup, the No.1 team in the land is a touchdown underdog on the road. Alabama might have one loss on the season (and almost two if not for the win in OT against LSU last Saturday), but oddsmakers sure don’t respect Mississippi State’s unblemished record. Clearly the home field advantage gives Alabama an edge, but the line is quite significant.
Also in the SEC, the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry gets going with Georgia taking on Auburn. Two weeks ago, this looked like it could be a top-10 matchup. But losses by both teams have put a damper on the this one. However, the return of Todd Gurley to the Dawgs following a four-game suspension should make this one interesting. Georgia is a two-point home favorite to open. the Bulldogs should have revenge on their minds following how last season’s game ended with a fluke hail mary to keep Auburn’s miracle season alive.
By the close of Saturday, a lot can happen. How many undefeated teams will be left? 1? 2? None?
