The L.A. Kings have won two of the last three Stanley Cups, meaning that a wager on them from a futures standpoint to capture the title since 2012 has been quite profitable. The Kings opened up the 2014-15 NHL season earlier this week along with the rest of the league, all with the goal in mind to hoist the trophy. If Los Angeles wins again, that would make it three out of four, and the term ‘dynasty’ could begin to be throw around.
That, of course, is still months away.
As the teams got back on the ice for hockey that now counts following the preseason action, the anticipation and excitement is high for all teams. Each believes that they have the makeup to win the Stanley Cup this season, but in the end it will just be one.
The question now is, which team will it be?
Oddsmakers at BetOnline Sportsbook have tried to figure this out as well, and formulated betting lines according to the top favorites all the way down to the largest underdogs.
The leader in the clubhouse are the Chicago Blackhawks, winner of the Stanley Cup a couple of seasons ago sandwiched in between the Kings’ titles. Chicago has been slated at +650 ($1 wins $6.50) to win the Stanley Cup in 2014-15. The Blackhawks are only the slight favorites though, with the defending champions not far behind at +800 (8/1).
The Blackhawks and Kings are two of only teams in the league with single-digit payouts. That means that there is some clear separation between these two and the rest of the NHL. The Boston Bruins are the only other team in that realm, also slated at 8/1 alongside Los Angeles.
The Bruins the top favorites to get out of the Eastern Conference though, meaning that they have a good opportunity to make the Stanley Cup Finals this season. standing in their way will be teams like the Pittsburgh Penguins, and the upcoming Tampa Bay Lightning. Down in Florida, the Lightning are doing some good things, and have put together a squad that is gaining experience and could be a darkhorse to winning their first Stanley Cup title since 2004.
In the Western Conference, teams like the st. Louis Blues, and Anaheim Ducks are perceived to be the biggest contenders.
Among those teams with the longest shots include the Florida Panthers (150/1), and Calgary Flames (150/1).
