The United States Men’s National Team will take on Belgium in the Round of 16 on Tuesday afternoon at 4 pm ET on ESPN.
What’s interesting is that Belgium might be the worst team that the U.S. has played thus far, a testament to the ‘group of death’ in the three matches previous. That is no reason for the United States to take Belgium lightly, as this team comes in very confident.
The United States will have had four days off in between their last match, which was a 1-0 defeat to Germany. Despite the loss, the U.S. had enough points and goal differential to advance through as the group runner up.
What’s even more exciting for the U.S. is the possible return by forward Jozy Altidore, who has missed virtually the entire World Cup. Altidore went down in the 25th minute in the opener against Ghana, and has been missed. He is a physical presence on the pitch, and allows Jurgen Klinsmann to put other pieces in place. Without Altidore, Clint Dempsey has been on his own island, and Michael Bradley has been placed in a role that has pushed him into running more distance than any other player in group play.
So how do oddsmakers see this one shaking out?
Bovada Sportsbook has formed U.S. vs. Belgium betting odds, and it’s Belgium that is the slight 1/2-goal favorite. This is essentially a moneyline wager, with a team needing the outright victory to cover. A wager on Belgium is set at -105 ($1.05 wins $1), while a wager on the U.S. is set at -125 ($1.25 wins $1). As you can see, the payouts are very similar. The payout for a regulation draw is set at +250. In that case, the game would go into an extra 30 minutes of playing time, and if need be, penalty kicks.
We’ve already seen two Round of 16 games be decided by penalty kicks, including the host-nation Brazil squeaking through by the narrowest of margins. Fellow CONCACAF member Costa Rica advanced into the quarterfinals over Greece on penalty kicks as well.
There are several betting lines that are available at Bovada that move the goal line. These different lines shift the payouts back and forth, giving plenty of options.
In addition to the game lines, a variety of props odds have been installed as well, including the first player to score a goal, the first team to score a goal, and if the first team to score a goal will go on to win the game.
Below, LatestBettingOdds.com has the complete set of game lines. Check them out, and also visit the prop odds. These lines will be available up until the start, with Bovada also offering live betting throughout the match!
