Urijah Faber and Scott Jorgensen are definitely not new to the mixed martial arts scene. In fact, both have been under the same organization for the last five years. But at The Ultimate Fighter 17 main event this Saturday from the Hard Rock in Las Vegas, they will be fighting in the octagon for the first time in their careers against one another. This matchup will be televised on FX.
But Faber and Jorgensen were not always in the same division. In fact, for about half of that Faber was one of the top featherweights before moving to the bantamweight division.
These two top contenders will get a full dose of each other at the Hard Rock on Saturday night though, with the winner moving into position to contend for an eventual bantamweight title fight down the line.
Faber has certainly been one of the most popular fighters during his career, sporting a 27-6 career record. The ‘California Kid’ is known for his ability to take the fight to the ground, where he holds the advantage over just about any fighter he will face. His wrestling skills started back in high school, and then transferred over into college at the NCAA Division I level before now his career in mixed martial arts. There is no question that Faber will try to play to his strengths here in this fight with Jorgensen, and see if he can’t submit his opponent.
But Jorgensen will try to fight fire with fire, as he is a great wrestler by nature himself. But there is no question that the longer the fight is standing up, the more the advantage leans the direction of Jorgensen here. Jorgensen has a couple of different things going for him in this fight that he can try to use to his advantage. The first has to be his quickness standing up. Jorgensen is a good striker, able to produce devastating blows to his opponents. If he can stay up and keep Faber from taking him to the ground early and often, the fight
is definitely in his favor.
Oddsmakers do not see it going that way though. TUF 17 main event betting odds found at Bovada Sportsbook have set Faber as a big -450 favorite on the moneyline. At this payout, a wager on Faber profits $1 for every $4.50 wagered. Jorgensen comes in on the other side of the betting line, installed at +325 as the underdog. Every $1 wagered on Jorgensen to win the fight will profit $3.25, so the payout disparity is certainly evident.
Bettors will have the chance to cash in on this fight up until it starts. The line will come down at 10pm ET on Saturday night, so be sure to get in on the action.
