Tony Stewart has picked a great time to start winning in 2011, just as the Chase for the Cup gets underway and the real Sprint Cup Championship contenders begin to make their mark.
And no driver on the circuit has made that mark more defined than Tony Stewart and his two recent victories.
As a result of that, oddsmakers have hopped on board the Stewart train as well, installing the recent winner as the overall favorite to end Jimmie Johnson’s streak at five-straight season titles, and supplanting himself at the top of the rankings in 2011.
The Latest Sprint Cup Championship Betting Odds at Bodog Sportsbook have set Stewart as a 5/2 favorite to win the NASCAR title.
Stewart leads a host of top contenders, including Kevin Harvick, Carl Edwards and Jeff Gordon.
Johnson is down the list as 13/2, though still thought to be a contender.
Stewart is currently seven points ahead of Harvick, who is at 4/1 on the betting odds and second in the line of overall favorites behind the points leader.
And while brad Keselowski is currently third on the points standings, he is seventh on the list of overall odds to win. Edwards is in fact third on the betting lines, though fourth in the Sprint Cup standings at just 14 points behind. Edwards spent a significant amount of time atop the points standings earlier in the season, as did Harvick.
But now, it’s Stewart’s championship, at least for the time being. There are still eight races before the finale in Miami at Homestead on Nov. 20.
Next up on tap for the Sprint Cup Series is in Dover this upcoming Sunday at Dover international Speedway. This is the third race since the start of the Chase For The Cup, with Stewart getting his next opportunity to increase or preserve his championship lead.
But the way that points are awarded, there is still plenty of opportunity for movement in the standings, and Stewart’s lead is definitely within reach of several of the nearest contenders.
