The final for The Ultimate Fighter 17 is set to get underway from the Hard Rock Casino in Las Vegas on Saturday night, April 13th. The two coaches, Jon Jones, and Chael Sonnen, have battled back and forth with their teams, trying to put them in the best positions throughout the course of the season.
The original main event for the Finale of TUF 17 was scheduled to be Flyweight championship bout matching titleholder Demetrious Johnson against top contender John Moraga. However, Johnson suffered an injury during training and had to pull out of the fight. This left an open date, with the matchup then filled with a Bantamweight matchup between popular fighter Urijah Faber, going up against Scott Jorgensen. While not a title fight, this is the main event of the evening.
Faber (-450) vs. Jorgensen (+325)
Hall (-375) vs. Gastelum (+285)
Zingano (-130) vs. Tate (Even)
Browne (-285) vs. Gonzaga (+225)
McDaniel (-175) vs. Smith (+145)
There are four other fights on the night which will be broadcast on FX. There are two Middleweight matchups, a Heavyweight brawl, and a Women’s Bantamweight.
Actually, the women’s Bantamweight matchup between Miesha Tate and Cat Zingano might be the most intriguing of the night, because the winner will likely be the No.1 contender to challenge Ronda Rousey for a title fight next. So there is certainly some big implications on the line as the sport of UFC tries to grow in the women’s division.
Faber and Jorgensen is the featured matchup though, aside from the TUF 17 Tournament final. In this fight, it’s Faber who has been set as the biggest favorite on the night, going off at -450 on the moneyline (A $.50 wager profits $1). Jorgensen is set at +325 ($1 wins $3.25). So it’s clear that Faber, the ‘California Kid’ is predicted to be the winner of this matchup, but this will be the final fight of the night.
Robert McDaniel and Gilbert Smith will get things started on the main card, as the two Middleweight fighters look to end TUF 17 on a high note. Oddsmakers are in on all of the action for the event, formulating TUF 17 odds at Bovada Sportsbook. The matchup between McDaniel and Smith is the closest betting line on the card for the men. McDaniel has been set as a -170 favorite on the moneyline. That means a $1.70 wager profits $1. In the role of the underdog, Smith has been set at +145.
Travis Browne and Gabriel Gonzaga will be the next fight to take place on FX. This is the matchup between two in the Heavyweight division, so we can certainly expect some big blows to be dealt throughout the course of this one. Browne is a near 1 to 3 favorite in this matchup, paying out -285 on the moneyline. On the flipside, bettors will be getting over 2 to 1 with a wager on Gonzaga should he win, paying out a +225.
The women’s battle between Zingano and Tate is next, and the odds say that this one is ery even. It’s Zingano who has been slated as the slight favorite, installed at -130 on the moneyline. Tate is right there with her though, paying out even money on a wager laid down for her to win.
Uriah Hall and Kelvin Gastelum will take place before the main event. This is the TUF 17 Middleweight Final to determine the winner of the season. Both Hall and Gastelum are members of Team Sonnen, so the winning coach has already been decided. Now the only thing left to do is find out who the winner is going to be. Hall is the assertive favorite, paying out roughly 1 to 4, installed at -375. Bettors will get nearly 3 to 1 with a wager on Gastelum, installed at +285.
