When Monday Night Football takes center stage in the Superdome to wrap up Week 9 of the NFL season, a lot is on the line for both the New Orleans Saints and the Philadelphia Eagles.
Many wondered how the Saints would fare with head coach Sean Payton sidelined for the season. And it isn’t turning out to well with New Orleans sitting at 2-5 on the year. They will head into Monday coming off a loss to Denver after winning two straight.
For Philadelphia, they got off to a good start at 3-1 but have somehow managed to spiral the opposite way and have dropped their last three.
The situation is the same for both, they need to turn things around quickly if they want to participate in the playoffs this year. In addition, it might be safe to say that quarterback Michael Vick and head coach Andy Reid have a lot on the line in their respective positions within the Eagles’ organization.
Vick had not played up to par at all this year with turnovers being a huge issue. He didn’t give the ball away in last week’s loss to Atlanta but did not lead the offense well at all.
However, he will have a good chance to turn things around against a Saints’ defense that is one the worst in the NFL. New Orleans is near the bottom of the league in both rushing and passing defense.
What the Saints can do is implode their will in the passing game led by Drew Brees that ranks 1st in the league with 316 yards per game. But, they rank dead last in rushing yards per game with just 72 and they took a hit with Daren Sproles out on Monday night.
The Saints will enter the game as the betting favorite at 3 1/3-points according to Bovada Sportsbook’s Monday Night Football Betting Odds. The OVER/UNDER in points is set at 52.
The Monday night matchup can be seen live on ESPN with coverage starting at 8:30 pm ET.
