Almost like clockwork, Jimmie Johnson knows when the time is right to begin to make his move and a drive for a sixth-straight Sprint Cup Series championship.
Johnson came through with a win in Kansas over the weekend, and is now just four points back in third place behind Carl Edwards and Kevin Harvick on the latest Sprint Cup standings.
And while Johnson has always been considered a serious contender on the betting lines over the course of the last several weeks, the five-time champion is now alone on top.
The Latest Sprint Cup Championship Betting Odds at Bodog Sportsbook have set Johnson as the favorite to win his sixth season-long championship title in a row, going off at 2/1.
Johnson is ahead of Edwards, who has been set at 7/2, and Harvick, who also comes in a 7/2 despite both drivers currently ahead of Johnson on the standings.
But it was Johnson’s performance in Kansas this weekend that made oddsmakers take notice, and decide to install him as the front runner, at least for the time being. It was the way in which Johnson won, leading 197 laps en route to the victory.
But it is still Edwards who is atop the standings, albeit just one point in front of Harvick and four points in front of Johnson.
There are eigh drivers within 20 points of the lead, including Tony Stewart and Kyle Busch.
The Odds To Win The Sprint Cup championship are updated throughout the week, and are most likely to change depending on the results, usually coming out on Monday.
