The NASCAR Sprint Cup circuit kicked off with a bang last week at the running of the 2013 Daytona 500. And by the end, it was Jimmie Johnson who took the checkered flag over Dale Earnhardt Jr., winning the second Daytona 500 of his career.
It is certainly something that Johnson relishes, but he knows that the mission at hand to win the Sprint Cup Championship has only just begun. While he has gotten off to a great start, the Sprint Cup series now goes across the country to Phoenix for the running of the Subway Fresh Fit 500.
It shouldn’t be a surprise that Johnson is at the top of the list of favorites to win the Subway Fresh Fit 500 this week. He won this race back in 2008.
Betting Odds available at Bovada Sportsbook have set the Daytona 500 winner at 11/2 on the betting line, which is well ahead of Denny Hamlin, who sits in second on the odds at 17/2. Hamlin has a good track record at Phoenix International Speedway, and comes into this week as the defending champion.
Kyle Busch is also slated with those same 17/2 odds at Hamlin, while Brad Keselowski comes in at 9/1. Matt Kenseth is set at 11/1, and rounds out Bovada’s top-five favorite for the race.
Jeff Gordon won here in 2011, and is just outside of the top-five favorites, going off at 12/1 alongside Kasey Kahne, Kevin Harvick, and Tony Stewart. Harvick and Stewart had very disappointing Daytona 500s last week, crashing early on and were never a factor.
The Subway Fresh Fit 500 from Phoenix International Speedway will get underway at 3pm ET on Sunday, with Fox picking up the live coverage.
The one-mile track will be navigated 312 times for a 312-mile total for the drivers, which is certainly a different race than they just came from at Daytona.
