And we have a potential Triple Crown winner folks.
Just two weeks after his historic victory at the Kentucky Derby, California Chrome bested the field at the Preakness in Maryland. That means that when California Chrome races for the Belmont on June 7th, he will be looking to become the first thoroughbred since 1978 to win the Triple Crown.
The last to complete the Triple Crown was Affirmed, who was actually the second-straight horse to complete the feat. Since that point nearly four decades ago, there have been 11 horses to win the first two legs of the Triple Crown.
None have been able to get it done. Is California Chrome different?
Only time will tell. One thing’s for sure though, and that is that the Belmont should have a high rating this year with a potential Triple Crown at stake. The complete field for the 2014 Belmont has not been set, but California Chrome Triple Crown odds & Belmont props have already been released by Bovada Sportsbook.
We know that California Chrome will be the favorite in the race, but there should be some contenders back in the mix that ran in the Kentucky Derby. Typically, some of the horses that run in the Kentucky Derby that do not win take the Preakness off to prepare for the grueling 1.5-mile track around the Belmont. The tough schedule of the three Triple Crown races takes a toll on the winner of the first two legs.
Bovada Sportsbook thinks that it is California Chrome’s title to lose though, installing the thoroughbred at -120 on the betting line to complete the Triple Crown. A payout on either side of the line is set with an equal return.
Outside of that betting line, 2014 Belmont props covering the winning time + the margin of victory have been formed.
The margin of victory is based on a win of two lengths or more, with the winning time installed at two and a half minutes.
Once the post positions have been determined, expect even more Belmont Props to come out alongside the payouts to win the race. The props will largely depend on the post position, with saddlecloth numbers, odd and even winners + more.
Odds to win the Belmont should be out in the coming weeks, but LatestBettingOdds.com has the payout for the Triple Crown betting line below at Bovada. Be sure to check it out and check back with us as the Belmont draws closer.
