The PGA Tour goes back across the Atlantic, but is outside the United States for the second-straight week. The third Major Championship is in the books, and now the RBC Canadian Open is up on the schedule.
Rory McIlroy won his third Major on Sunday, winning the British Open by two shots. He is now just one Masters win away from capturing the career slam. But we will not see McIlroy in the field this week at the Canadian Open. He will be taking a few weeks off and likely not play again until the PGA Championship in the beginning of August.
Despite McIlroy’s absence this week, the Canadian Open will have plenty of star power, as the tournament seems to grow each season. It’s become one of the more popular tournaments on the PGA Tour.
Among those in the field this week include Matt Kuchar, Dustin Johnson, Jim Furyk, Graeme McDowell, Luke Donald, and Brandt Snedeker.
After recording T12 finish at the British Open, Johnson leads the way this week on 2014 Canadian Open betting lines found at Bovada Sportsbook. Johnson was in contention on the weekend, but couldn’t get the putts to fall on Sunday to make any kind of a run. He hit the ball very well though and if he carries that over into this week, then Johnson will be a factor.
Johnson finished T2 last year at the Canadian Open last year, three shots behind winner Brandt Snedeker.
As you can imagine, Snedeker is up on the list of favorites as well. Snedeker hasn’t had a great season though, but coming back to a familiar course where he has won will certainly held. Snedeker used a third round 63 last year to grab the lead and hold on into Sunday for the victory.
Kuchar was right up there near the top as well, finishing T2 alongside Johnson and two others. Kuchar did not play a factor in the Open Championship, but did make the cut and played the weekend. He will expect to play much better this week on a golf course that suits his style and game very well.
Those who are unfamiliar with Glen Abbey Golf Club will be in for a pleasant surprise, not to mention a very different change in scenery from Hoylake last week. It will be lush and green with tight fairway and thick rough to battle.
