The 68 teams selected for the 2014 Men’s NCAA Basketball Tournament all have a shot at winning the national championship. It’s arguably the greatest sports spectacle around, with a format that draws the attention of just about everyone; even the non-sports fans.
‘Who do you have in your bracket?”
No matter where you are, the chance that you’ve heard someone around you say this to someone or to you is likely.
With the start of the opening round of play-in games set to open up on Tuesday night, and second round action getting underway on Thursday and Friday, anticipation is as high.
The goal is to reach Dallas, where the Final Four will be held at Cowboys Stadium. To get to the Final Four, teams will need to win five games (six in the case of a play-in team), with a sixth win giving them the championship.
With this season as wide open as any in recent history, there are plenty of teams predicted to advance far in the tournament. The Florida Gators are the No.1 overall seed and the team picked most often as the national champion. But there are plenty others that will have their say.
Betting lines to win the national championship have been formed, but outside of that there are plenty of other options. The most-popular set of betting odds are NCAA Tournament game lines formed. Every matchup in the NCAA Tournament will be calculated with betting odds. Bovada Sportsbook has already released the first and second round slate of games.
The initial rounds will be played in locations all over the country. For those unfamiliar, the tournament bracket is divided into four regions (East, West, South, and Midwest). The winners of each region will advance to the Final Four in Dallas.
Prior to the Final Four, the East Regional final will be held at Madison Square Garden in New York City the West Regional final will be contested at the Honda Center in Anaheim California, the Midwest Regional final at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, and the South Regional Final at the FedExForum in Memphis, Tennessee.
All games within the regions will have betting action available. Games will be assigned point spreads, moneylines, game totals, and a variety of player + team prop betting lines.
Due to the tournament’s unique format, other types of odds can be found as well. Bovada breaks up the individual brackets and forms betting odds for teams within a region to advance to the Final Four..
While there are almost certainly going to be upsets in the 2014 NCAA Tournament, the trick is to find where they may happen.
Never in the history of the NCAA Tournament has a No.16 seed upset a No.1 seed. In addition to Florida, the other top seeds are Arizona, Virginia, and Wichita State. While all four have title hopes, it starts with getting by the first game, for which all are heavily favored.
