This upcoming weekend is unquestionably the best slate of games so far this 2014 college football season, and it just might be the best weekend all season long.
Only time will tell, but there are six ranked matchups on Saturday, including three in the SEC West where all of those teams are ranked inside the top-15.
The SEC West is about to unleash on each other, where there is a whole lot of talent. But it’s in the SEC East where the best player in the country might reside.
Georgia running back Todd Gurley is having himself quite a season. Gurley came into the year highly touted and one of the Heisman notables. Through four games, Gurley has been the dynamic player that everyone expected him to be, most recently rushing for 208 yards and two touchdowns in a victory over Tennessee last Saturday. The Bulldogs will host Vanderbilt this Saturday, and Gurley is expected to have another big performance.
But despite the hype Gurley is getting, he is only second on the latest 2014 Heisman Trophy betting lines found at Bovada Sportsbook. At 7/2, a wager on Gurley is paying out just over 3 to 1.
It’s Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota who is leading all Heisman Trophy favorites, set at 7/4 at Bovada Sportsbook. Mariota anchors one of the top offenses in the country in the Pac 12, with the Ducks out to a fast 4-0 start highlighted by a victory over Michigan State a few weeks ago. Mariota was a Heisman favorite last season, but injuries kept him from making a big push during the final weeks of the season.
It’s clear that Mariota and Gurley have separated themselves through the first one-third of the season.
Three of the top-six favorites to win the Heisman in 2014 entering Week 6 come from the SEC, with Texas A&M Kenny Hill and Auburn quarterback Nick Marshall in the mix.
As expected, the majority of favorites are quarterbacks. In total, eight of the top-10 favorites are quarterbacks, with Gurley, and Nebraska running back Ameer Abdullah the only two that are not.
FSU quarterback Jameis Winston, who won the Heisman last season, is slipping but still in the top-10. Winston’s off-the-field antics that caused a suspension against Clemson likely shut the door on his chance to become just the second player in history to win two Heisman Trophy.
Below, the full slate of 2014 Heisman Trophy betting ods are available, as LatestBettingOdds.com has them listed from Bovada. These odds will be updated throughout the season, but are shown live as they are on the sportsbook.
