The 71st Golden Globe Awards will air this Sunday, Jan. 12 on NBC with hosts Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. The Saturday Night Live duo will headline the event with the help of guest presenters Tom Hanks, Chris Hemsworth, Melissa McCarthy, Seth Meyers, Liam Neeson, Chris O’Donnell, Margot Robbie, Mark Ruffalo, Kyra Sedgwick, Channing Tatum, Emma Watson, Naomi Watts, Olivia Wilde, Mila Kunis, Jennifer Lawrence and Reese Witherspoon. Actors Matt Damon and Ben Affleck were also recently added to hand out the prestigious awards.
This season, the always unpredictable awards show will celebrate actors chosen by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association that have been nominated for their skills in both the land of TV and film. Some of the nominees for the top categories include Chiwetel Ejiofor, (12 Years a Slave), Idris Elba (Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom), Tom Hanks (Captain Phillips), Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club), and Robert Redford (All Is Lost) for best lead actor in a motion picture drama.
Betting odds for the 2014 Golden Globe Awards have been formed at Bovada Sportsbook. Many of the top categories on the night are up and available. This includes the Best Actor Drama category, where Ejiofor is the favorite to win at -110 ($1.10 wins $1). Redford is right behind though at +225 ($1 wins $2.25).
12 Years a Slave, Captain Phillips, Gravity, Philomena, Rush make-up the nominees for the top motion picture drama with Gravity creating the most buzz for a win at this year’s Globes. Once again 12 Years A Slave rules the day on the betting line. At -400, the movie is the assertive favorite to take home the final award of the night.
Veteran actress Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine), Sandra Bullock (Gravity), Judi Dench (Philomena), Emma Thompson (Saving Mr. Banks), and Kate Winslet) are the nominees for lead actress in a drama. Blanchett is expected to take home the award, as Bovada agrees. A wager on Blanchett is paying out -800 ($8 wins $1) to capture the award.
Betting lines center on the motion picture awards for the evening, however payouts for television categories could be expected. LatestBettingOdds.com will have the updated lines if they are released prior to the show.
Dominating the TV landscape, AMC’s Breaking Bad is a shoe in for the award for best TV series drama. The fan favorite is up against Downton Abbey, The Good Wife, Masters of Sex and House of Cards.
Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston has also been nominated for Best Actor in a TV drama. He is joined by nominees Liev Schreiber (Ray Donovan), Michael Sheen (Masters of Sex), Kevin Spacey (House of Cards) and James Spader (The Blacklist). Julianna Marguiles (The Good Wife), Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black), Taylor Schilling (Orange Is the New Black), Kerry Washington (Scandal) and Robin Wright (House of Cards), have all been nominated in the best actress category for a TV drama.
The Golden Globes is set to air at 8pm est/5 pm pst on NBC.
