The opening day of the 2014-15 English Premier League gets underway this Saturday, August 16th, as 20 of the best clubs in the world embark on their long journey towards trying to win a championship.
The Premier League’s 23rd season is poised to be one of the best ones yet, with the hype surrounding the start as high as it’s been in recent years. That can likely be attributed to the 2014 World Cup that concluded last month in Brazil. While the English Premier League has no problem with grabbing fans, there is no doubt that the sport of soccer has picked up quite a few more since the World Cup.
Many of those have come from the United States. The research is proving that soccer is one of the fastest growing sports being played in the U.S. More interest has been created around the sport, and more eyes will be on one of the world’s top leagues.
The English Premier League is a grueling season, putting the likes of Major League Baseball to shame. Maybe not in the number of games played, but in the sheer volume of months, lasting until the championship final on May 24th 2015.
Three teams were promoted into the English Premier league (Leicester City, Burnley, and Queens Park Rogers).
With the start of the season upcoming, Bovada Sportsbook has formed 2014-15 English Premier League futures odds. Manchester City is the defending Premier League champions, but are not the favorites to repeat that title. They are second on the list in fact. At the top is Chelsea, going off at 7/4 to capture the championship. That is a wager of just under a 2 to 1 payout. Manchester City comes in right behind at 9/4, slightly over 2 to 1.
The ever-popular Manchester United isn’t far behind the top-two favorites at 9/2, with Arsenal installed at 6/1.
How does it look for the newcomers to this season?
All of them are considered to be among the biggest underdogs. Each team has been set with a 5000/1 payout. That’s right, a 5000/1 payout. Clearly, oddsmakers do not see one of these three teams making a miracle run to the title. In fact, by the looks of things, just sticking around for another year might be the goal here.
Once the betting lines get past Arsenal and Liverpool (10/1), the payout jumps to 50/1 with Tottenham Hotspur.
This is the main indicator that about five teams are being considered as legitimate contenders, with every other team starting from behind at the onset.
