Betting Odds To Win 2013 NRA 500 Favor Jimmie Johnson To Win For Second-Straight Week

Filed under: NASCAR Betting Odds |

NRA 500It’s not always that oddsmakers get it right, but in the case of the Gas Booster 500 last week at Martinsville Speedway, bettors would have made a nice profit if they went with the overall race favorite. Jimmie Johnson led 346 total laps this past Sunday to pull off an eighth-career victory at Martinsville, which is the oldest track on the Sprint Cup Circuit. Johnson came in as an 8 to 1 favorite to win at Martinsville, so any bettor who wagered on him certainly made some cash. The 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series now goes to Texas Motor Speedway for the running of the NRA 500.

Greg Biffle comes in as the defending champion here, capturing the 2012 edition of the race. Other recent past winners include Matt Kenseth, Denny Hamlin, Jeff Gordon, Carl Edwards, and Kasey Kahne. But when you’re hot, you’re hot, and oddsmakers are not straying from installing Johnson as the favorite to get it done this week as well.

NRA 500 Top-5 Favorites

Jimmie Johnson – 6/1 (+600)

Kyle Busch – 7/1 (+700)

Matt Kenseth – 15/2 (+750)

Greg Biffle – 9/1 (+900)

Brad Keselowski – 9/1 (+900)

Johnson does not have a victory at this race though, which began back in the 1997 season. The payout for Johnson has gone down slightly as compared to a week ago. NRA 500 betting odds available at Bovada Sportsbook have set Johnson at 6 to 1 on the line to get it done for a second week in a row. The defending champion comes in further down the list, but is a top-five favorite. Biffle has been slated at 9 to 1, which is tied with Brad Keselowski.

Directly behind Johnson on the odds to win prior to the race is Kyle Busch. Like Johnson, Busch has never won this race either, but oddsmakers clearly don’t put much weight to that. They are going by wins in 2013 and both Johnson and Busch have them. At 7 to 1, even a wager on the second-overall favorite this week is a less of a payout than the favorite was last week. Kenseth is the highest driver on the betting odds to have won here in the past. The 2002, and 2011 NRA 500 champion is installed at 15/2, which is a payout just behind Busch. The race has a history of producing different winners.

In fact, for the first 10 years of this event there were 10 different winners. That was until Jeff Burton won for a second time in 2007. Burton was also the winner o the first race back in 1997. Kenseth is the only other driver with multiple victories in the race.

This Sprint Cup Series race gets going on Saturday night in primetime from Texas Motor Speedway. Coverage of the 2013 NRA 500 will be on FOX, beginning at 7:30pm ET.
