Despite what appears to be a team that heading down the road to disaster, the fact remains that the New York Jets are at 2-2 on the year and in tied for first in the AFC East.
The Jets are coming off a humiliating loss to the San Fransisco 49ers last weekend where they fell 34-0 in what was a horrific offensive performance by their offense.
In the loss the Jets managed just 145 yards. Not to mention 4 turnovers. Quarterback Mark Sanchez completed just 13 of 29 pass attempts for 103 yards. Running back Shonn Greene was held to just 34 yards as well.
It is safe to say that the Jets’ offense is in a funk right now and it doesn’t get any better now that Santonio Holmes is gone for the year.
Week 5 would be a good time to turn things around, especially in prime time on Monday Night Football and that is what lies ahead for New York. The problem is they are facing arguably the best team in the NFL right now, the Houston Texans who are 4-0 on the year.
It’s not going to get any easier as the Jets will face a very stout defense in Houston. The Texans are leading the NFL in almost every defensive category and are 2nd in passing defense allowing just 182.8 yards per game. In addition, they are giving up just 90.3 yards on the ground and are leading the league in points allowed at just 14.0.
Stopping the explosive offense of the Texans will be another huge task for New York. They are 31st in yards allowed rushing per game and will have to find a way to stop Arian Foster on Monday night. Also, stopping quarterback Matt Shaub will be key as he has led his offense to 31.5 points per game.
Bovada Sportsbook has fielded their Monday Night Football Betting Odds and have the Texans favored on the road by 9. The OVER/UNDER in points is set at 41 1/2.
The New York Jets vs Houston Texans matchup can be seen live on ESPN beginning at 8:30 pm ET.
