The United States men’s basketball team takes the court later today against the No.3 ranked team in the world in Argentina. And at least on paper, this is the toughest matchup for Team USA. But it will be hard-pressed to find a more challenging game for the United States their their five-point win over Lithuania on Saturday.
When looking at this match up with Argentina though, oddsmakers have still set Team USA as the assertive favorite in the game. In fact, the United States are 24-point favorites over Argentina, meaning that the betting line suggests it shouldn’t be very close.
But in addition to the overall betting odds to win the game 2012 Olympics basketball game props have been installed.
These prop betting odds feature a variety of topics. Let’s take a look at some of those.
There are a couple of benchmark game props set for this one, including a race to 10 points and a race to 20 points. You can probably guess that the United States is set as the favorite, which would be correct. For the first to 10 points between these two, Team USA is set as a -160 favorite to get to 10 points, while a wager on Argentina is going off at +130. The race to 20 points gets more separation, as the United States are set at -500 on the payout Argentina is set well on the other side of the betting line at +300.
First half total points have been set for each team as well. For the United States, that betting line has been set at 53 points, with a wager on the under paying out -125, and the over -115. The over/under first half total for Argentina has been set at 40 points, with the same payouts as the United States on both sides.
There has also been a point spread installed for the first quarter. That betting line has been set at 6.5 points in favor of the United States. But Team USA has been prone to sluggish starts with the exception of the Nigeria game. They will need to be up by at least seven points at the end of one to cover the line.
