We knew that the games were going to get tougher for the United States men’s basketball team after Nigeria. And that proved to be the case against the No.5 ranked team in the world in Lithuania on Friday afternoon in London.
But the United States held it together, and squeaked out a hard-fought victory 99-94.
The shots weren’t falling at near the rate as they did against Nigeria in the game before, but Team USA remained diligent, with LeBron James leading the way to a win in the fourth quarter.
Now, things get even tougher for the United States, with the No.3 ranked team in the world in Argentina next on the schedule.
But oddsmakers have still set the Untied States as big favorites to bounce back from a relatively poor performance against Lithuania, and defeat Argentina soundly. 2012 Olympics basketball betting odds available at Bovada Sportbook have set the United States as 24-point favorites over Argentina on Monday.
Obviously oddsmakers are not deterred or discouraged by the performance of the United States against Lithuania, and expect them to play well here in this game. To cover the line, Team USA will need to win by at least 25 points, with a 23-point win or less giving the win against the spread to Argentina.
The over/under point total for the game has been set at 187.5 points.
The United States are 4-0 at the 2012 Olympics so far, but are just 2-2 against the spread. They have alternated covering each game. So if this trend holds true, it would lean towards the United States covering the line.
This is the last game for Team USA in the group play before the elimination round gets underway on August 7.
The United States remains the heavy favorite to win the gold medal. Check out these betting odds below, and more.
