The United States men’s basketball team has little trouble with Australia in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, cruising to a 119-86 victory. Team USA will now play Argentina in the semifinals on Friday for the right to play in the gold medal game.

The United States matched up with Argentina earlier this week in the final game of Group Play, defeating the No.3 ranked team in the world by nearly 30 points in a 126-97 win. Needless to say, Team USA goes into the semifinals as the heavy favorite to advance to the gold medal game.

2012 Olympics Basketball betting odds available at Bovada Sportsbook have set the United States as 26-point favorites over Argentina in the this semifinal matchup on Friday. Team USA did not cover the betting line in their first match up with Argentina, though the line was considerably higher. Oddsmakers have shifted the line over seven points, compared to the 33.5-point betting line that was installed in the Group play.

There is no question that the elimination games take on an entirely new feel, but oddsmakers believe that the United States is simply too strong for anyone to take down. But if there is a team to do it, it could be Argentina. Argentina knows that they can beat the United States, knocking them out back in the 2004 Athens games.

But it was that loss that lit a fire under the United States, and they have been on a mission ever since, beginning with the gold medal in the Beijing games in 2008.

As far as this game is concerned, Team USA will need to win by at least 27 points to cover this line, with a win by 25 points or less giving the victory against the spread to Argentina.

The over/under point total for the game has been set at 197.5 points

The winner of this game will match up with the winner of Spain and Russia for the gold medal on Sunday in London. The United States remains the heavy favorite to come away with a follow up gold medal from Beijing. Check out the betting odds for both of these games as seen on Bovada.
