There really wasn’t a team that looked more impressive than the San Francisco 49ers did on Sunday in Week 1 of the NFL Season. The 49ers went on the road in a very tough environment and defeated Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers.
Perhaps it was a bit of validation that the 2011 season was no fluke.
But now, San Francisco goes home where things do not get any easier with another NFC North opponent ready to try to take them down. That would be Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson, and the Detroit Lions.
The Lions had some struggles against the St. Louis Rams in their season opener, but when it became crunch time, Stafford performed and led Detroit to a victory to avoid the upset. So it sets up this showdown of a pair of 1-0 teams in prime time on Sunday night with no shortage of Pro Bowl talent on the field.
But when it comes to the betting line, San Francisco is getting the assertive edge.
49ers vs Lions NFL Week 2 Betting odds available at Bovada Sportsbook have set San Francisco as touchdown favorites over Detroit. A the seven-point line, the 49ers will need to win by at least eight points to cover, while a win by six points or less will give the win against the spread to the Lions.
If San Francisco is to cover, we can tell you that it will come down to covering up Johnson on the defensive side of the ball. There is arguably no bigger playmaker at any position than Johnson at receiver. The 49ers defense looked stout against the Packers, but Johnson is a whole different animal. And Stafford has every bit as much talent as Rodgers, with perhaps an even bigger arm.
But offensively for San Francisco, controlling the line of scrimmage will also be very important. The Detroit defense is aggressive up front, led by Ndamukong Suh. Detroit will try to get to quarterback Alex Smith and disrupt his rhythm and force him into poor decisions.
This should be a good on on Sunday night folks, with things getting underway at 8:20 pm ET on NBC. check out the betting odds for this game below, as well as the rest of the Week 2 matchups in the NFL.
