The Pittsburgh Steelers knew that they had to win in Week 5 to give themselves a chance, and not fall too far behind in the very tough AFC North. They were able to win a hard-fought and gritty matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles at home, and move to .500 on the season. But it’s a short week for the Steelers in Week 6, as they travel to Tennessee to take on the Titans.
Tennessee went into minnesota and came out with their fourth loss of the season, and now sit at just 1-4 on the year. Things definitely don’t get easier with Ben Roethlisberger coming to town. This is a virtual must-win for Tennessee if they hope to stay competitive in the division, and put any kind of pressure on the Houston Texans at the top.
The Titans have some winnable games over the next couple of weeks after the steelers, and if they can somehow pull it off at home, Tennessee could bring this thing back to level.
Oddsmakers do not see it going that way though.
Steelers vs Titans Thursday Night Football odds available at Bovada Sportsbook have set Pittsburgh as a six-point favorite on the road to win their second-straight game. To cover, the Steelers will need to win by at least a seven-point margin, with a loss by five points or less by Tennessee giving the Titans a win against the spread. Exactly a six-point Pittsburgh win will result in a push.
Neither the Steelers or the Titans have had success against the spread this season. Pittsburgh is just 1-3 ATS on the season, while Tennessee has the same record against the spread as they do straight up at just 1-4.
Pittsburgh is 0-2 on the road this season, with their only two wins coming at home. That bodes well for the Titans at home, and could give them a bit of an edge with their home crowd.
If Tennessee is to have success though, they will have to get their ground game going, which ranks 30th in the NFL right now at just 65 yards per game. The titans a far too one dimensional for a good defense like the Steelers. It will make it easy on Pittsburgh. Chris Johnson must get going, otherwise, a fifth loss in six games for the Titans seem likely.
Tennessee and Pittsburgh kickoff at 8:30 pm ET on Thursday with coverage on the NFL Network. Get the betting odds for this game below, as well as the rest of the Week 6 slate for the season below.
