The Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants squared off in Week 17 of the 2011-12 season with the NFC East Division on the line. The winner would go to the playoffs, while the loser would be sent home packing, having their season come to an end. It was the Giants who came out on top, getting the final NFC playoff spot. New York would subsequently catch fire in the postseason, and go on to win their second Super Bowl in five years.
Now, these two bitter division rivals will meet to kick off the 2012 NFL season on Wednesday night in primetime.
Both the Cowboys and the Giants have lofty expectations this season.
For Dallas, patience is wearing thin for both players and fans alike. Each postseason seems to be passing America’s team by. Tony Romo is surrounded on offense with plenty of weapons, and the team made strides to sewing up the weakness in the secondary on defense.
For New York, we all know how difficult it is to repeat as Super Bowl champions with the big target on their back. Eli Manning has certainly proven himself to be among the top quarterbacks in the league. The Giants look to be built to make another run at the NFC East, with this first match up against Dallas giving up a sense of where they are.
Oddsmakers are giving the edge to New York in the NFL season opener.
Giants vs Cowboys Week 1 Betting Odds available at Bovada Sportsbook have set New York as four-point favorites over Dallas. The Giants get this one at home, which defintiely shifts a couple of points in their favor. To get the cover, New York will need to win by at least firvep oints, with a win by a field goal or less for New York giving the victory against the spread to the Cowboys.
The Giants went 2-0 ATS in their two match ups with Dallas last season. In fact, New York has covered five of the last six games in the series.
The over/under point total for this one has been set at 45.5 points.
New York and Dallas kick off at 8:30pm ET on Wednesday night on NBC, with the Football Night In America pregame show beginning at 8.
