The New Orleans Saints got their first idea of what it will be like on the sidelines this season without their head coach. With Sean Payton serving his suspension for the bounty scandal, New Orleans will not have their head coach to rely on this season.
For the second preseason game, New Orleans will take on the Jacksonville Jaguars.
It was a 17-10 victory for the Saints in their preseason opener in the Hall Of Fame game. Quarterback Drew Brees only saw the field for a brief time, completing 4 of 5 passes for 41 yards in a short, but an effective outing. Brees will try and follow up a record-breaking season in 2011. He also signed the richest deal in NFL history in the offeseason.
It was Chase Daniel who got most of the playing time, completing 15 of 20 passes for 203 yards a touchdown and an interception.
For Jacksonville, they squeaked out a 32-31 victory over the New York Giants in their first preseason match up.
Quarterback Blaine Gabbert, entering his second season, definitely looked more comfortable in the pocket than at any time last season. And really there’s only room for improvement. Jacksonville ranked 32nd in the league in passing. It can’t get any worse than that.
Gabbert completed 5 of 10 passes for 62 yards and a touchdown in the first preseason game. The Jaguars are hoping that the edition of Justin Blackmon will held Gabbert out in the passing game. Blackmon is a big receiver with great playmaking ability. He didn’t play in the first preseason game, but is expected to start against the Saints after working with the first team.
Oddsmakers have set a betting line for this Week 2 preseason match up. Jags vs Saints Preseason lines have set New Orleans as 6.5-point favorites over Jacksonville. To cover, New Orleans will need to win by at least a touchdown and an extra point. For the Jaguars to cover, a loss by six points or less is needed.
Jacksonville and New Orleans will kick off on Friday night at 8pm ET with only local TV coverage picking up the game.
