The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have started out of the gate 2-0 on the season for the first time since 2008. First, it was a beat down of Navy overseas in Ireland. They followed that up with a narrow victory over Purdue this past Saturday. But now, things get a whole lot tougher, with No.10 Michigan State next up on the slate.
The Spartans have looked very good in their first two games of the season, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. Michigan State implored a top-10 defense last season, and so far that has carried over into 2012.
That being said however, the Fighting Irish dismantled the Spartans in South Bend last season, a factor that you can bet Michigan State has not forgotten as they get Notre Dame in their home stadium in prime time on Saturday night.
The Spartans defense has yet to allow and offensive touchdown in 2012, and with the uncertainty at quarterback for Notre Dame between Everett Golson and Tommy Rees, you can bet that Michigan State is rearing to go and get after the duo.
Oddsmakers are siding with the Spartans to get the win at home.
Michigan State vs Notre Dame Betting odds available at Bovada Sportsbook have set the Spartans as six-point favorites over the Fighting Irish on Saturday night.
To cover, the Spartans will need to win by at least a touchdown and an extra point, with a win by five points or less going the way of the Fighting Irish.
Head-to-head, it’s been the road team that has had the edge in covering the betting line, which would favor Notre dame in this case. The road team is 9-2 against the spread over the course of the last 11 meetings. Not to mention the fact that the Irish have gone 4-1 ATS in their last five trips to East Lansing.
Of course, the key will be how the Notre Dame quarterback(s) handle the pressure from the front seven of Michigan State, which might be one of the best in the country. If the Spartans win the line of scrimmage, it will be a long day for Rees and Golson.
Notre Dame and Michigan State kick off at 8pm ET, with coverage picked up on ABC. Check out the betting odds for this matchup, and the rest of College Football in Week 3 below.
