We already got to see Peyton Manning make his debut in a Denver Broncos uniform on Thursday night. Now, it’s part two of the story line, as we await the debut of the No.1 overall draft selection of the Indianapolis Colts in quarterback Andrew Luck.
The Colts are ushering in a new era under center, and just like it was weird to see Manning not in a Colts uniform, it will certainly take some getting used to with respect to Luck under center in a Colts jersey and not No.18.
Indianapolis opens up their preseason on Saturday against the St. Louis Rams, who have a former No.1 overall draft pick at quarterback as well. Sam Bradford enters his third season in the NFL, after having a forgettable second year.
But the big story coming into this match up is obviously Luck. We are not sure how long Luck will play in the game or for how many series. It will likely just be a few in the first quarter, but we are all interested to see how he looks.
We got a dose of Robert Griffin III in Washington on Thursday, as the No.2 pick from this year’s draft looked pretty comfortable in the pocket.
Luck has all of the physical tools to be a great NFL quarterback. He has great size, and can make all of the throws, as he proved time and again in college at Stanford. But translating that to the NFL is not an easy task. The offensive coordinator in Indianapolis will actually have to do some work and teaching this season.
As for the game, oddsmakers at Bovada Sportsbook are getting in on this preseason action, installing betting lines for all of the games. The Colts have been slated as 1.5-point favorites in the match up, needing at least a two-point win to cover.
Preseason odds are always tricky, because you never know which players will be in the line up, nor for how long. But football is back, and us bettors couldn’t me more excited!
Check out the betting odds for this game, as well as the rest of the line up this week below as seen on Bovada. The Colts and Rams kick off at 1:30 pm ET.
