The Green Bay Packers were not used to losing many games in 2011, after going 15-1 during the regular season. But in Week 1 in 2012, the Packers have already equaled that loss mark after dropping at home to the San Francisco 49ers.
And it will be a very quick turnaround, as Green Bay prepares for the Chicago Bears to come to town on Thursday night in prime time.
The Bears are coming off of a solid victory over the Indianapolis Colts at home in Week 1, winning 41-21 in an impressive performance on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.
Quarterback Jay cutler comes back from a broken thumb that ended his 2011 season, while Matt Forte, fresh off of a new contract, showed why he might be the best duel-threat running back in the NFL today with his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield.
Despite the loss though, oddsmakers aren’t deterred by Green Bay. The Packers have been set as favorites over Chicago on NFL Week 2 Betting odds available at Bovada Sportsbook. Green Bay has been set as five-point favorites in Week 2 over the Bears.
Chicago covered their betting line over Indianapolis in Week 1, while obviously Green Bay did not cover against San Francisco, losing the game straight up.
The Packers have fared well against the spread of late against the Bears though, going 7-2 ATS over the last nine meetings between these two division rivals.
To cover the line on Thursday, Green Bay will need to win by at least six points, with a win by four points or less by the Packers giving the win against the spread to the Bears. Exactly a five-point Green Bay win will result in a push.
The Packers will need to straighten out defensively, as they gave up too many players to an average San Francisco offense. Chicago at least on paper looks quite a bit more sharp on the offensive side of the ball. Containing Forte will be paramount.
Of course for the Bears, it’s easy to figure out what they need to do. The challenging part is figuring out how to stop Aaron Rodgers.
Whoever can do those two jobs better will have a very good chance at winning this game.
Green Bay and Chicago kick off at 8:20 pm ET, with coverage on NFL Network. Check out the betting odds for this game, an the rest of the NFL Week 2 schedule.
