The 2014 All-Star break is behind us, and for the 14th time in the last 17 All Star Games the American League came out on top. This means that the AL will have the home field advantage in the 2014 World Series regardless of the two teams involved and their record.
But that is a debate for another article.
Looking at the closing stretch of the season (not the halfway mark because the season is beyond that), the betting odds to win the 2014 World Series look a bit different than they did coming into Opening Day.
The team leading the way comes from the AL West. The Oakland Athletics own the best record in all of baseball. But what’s ironic is that the team with the second-best record happens to be i n the AL West also. The Los Angeles Angels are putting the pressure on the A’s at just 1.5 games behind. But the good news is that the postseason is looking good for both. The Angels are down the list a bit on the World Series odds though. Oakland comes in at 5/1 to win the Fall Classic, ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West at 11/2.
Three of the top-four World Series favorites are in the AL. Outside of the A’s, the Detroit Tigers in the AL Central, and the Angels in the AL West are right there. The Tigers are set at 6/1, while the Angels come in at 9/1. There is a bit of separation between the top-three favorites as the payouts jump up slightly with the Angels.
There are six teams with payouts that vary between 10/1 and 16/1. They include the Cardinals, Nationals, Giants, Braves, Orioles, and Brewers.
Of the six, the biggest surprise has to be Baltimore. The Orioles have a four-game lead over the rest of the AL East, something that few could have predicted coming into the season.
There are still plenty of games to be played this season though, and there is a lot that can happen. Teams at the top will feel increasing pressure with the postseason in their sights, while teams trailing will be giving it their all to make one final push to try and chase down those in front.
It should be quite an exciting finish come the end of September. The opportunity to wager on every MLB team can be found below. LatestBettingOdds.com has listed each of the payouts, courtesy of Bovada Sportsbok.
