Ernie Els won’t have much time off to relish in his British Open victory, as he travels across the pond to Canada for the playing of the 2012 RBC Canadian Open.
Els’ victory at the Open Championship was certainly surprising, thanks to the collapse of Adam Scott over the final four holes in which he made four-straight bogeys with a three-shot lead. But Els was the only player among the final five groups to make a move and shoot under par for the day, making a critical putt on No.18 for birdie that ended up being the difference. It certainly was a bit of redemption for Els, who was not invited to the Masters earlier this season. Now, he won’t have to worry about that for 2013.
When it comes to the RBC Canadian Open, Els is in the top-five favorites, but not ranked at the top. It’s Matt Kuchar, who won the Players Championship earlier this season, who is set as the favorite to win the RBC Canadian Open on betting lines available at Bovada Sportsbook.
Kuchar is going off at 11/1 on the betting line, looking for his second victory on the PGA tour in 2012.
Hunter Mahan has won twice in the 2012 season, but those wins were in the early portion. Mahan comes in just behind Kuchar, going off at 14/1.
Continuing with the top-five favorites this week, it’s Jim Furyk who comes in at 16/1. Furyk has been playing well of late, and narrowly missed out on a second U.S Open championship last month when he held the 54-hole lead.
Brandt Snedeker led the British Open after 36 holes, but stumbled on the weekend. He still had a top-five finish, and should come in with some confidence after playing well at a Major Championship.
And finally we have Els as a top-five favorite. You have to think that he will play well, but then there’s the chance of that post-Major championship victory let down. A win like that will take a lot out of a player, with interviews and appearances. But Els is a veteran, and has won Majors before. Though it had been 10 years.
Below, we have the full betting odds to win the 2012 RBC Canadian Open as available at Bovada, so if we didn’t mention your favorite golfer, be sure to check them out and see how their odds stack up against the rest of the field.
Opening round coverage begins on Thursday on the Golf Channel beginning at 3pm ET.
