2012 MLB Opening Day Betting Odds, Match Ups and Coverage Times

Alright baseball fans, it’s that time of year that we look forward to, as its Opening Day for the 2012 MLB Season, with a variety of games on tap throughout the course of the afternoon and on into the evening.

Things get going at 1pm ET today, with a total of seven games on the slate.

Let’s take a look at what’s on tap today.

The Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers open things up today at 1pm ET, with coverage on ESPN 2. Both clubs are expected to contend for their respective divisions, with plenty of competition in each. The AL East and AL West are arguably the best divisions in all of baseball, so this will be a good opening day test among the two aces in Justin Verlander for Detroit and Jon Lester for Boston.

2012 MLB Opening Day betting odds have set lines for each of the games on the schedule today, with the Tigers getting the edge on the run line and the money line against the Red Sox. Detroit is a -155 favorite to win the game outright, with Boston set on the other side of the line at +135.

A mere 10 minutes later, the Atlanta Braves visit the New York Mets in a NL East Division clash at 1:10pm ET today. Both of these teams are predicted to be in the middle of the pack in the NL East, so it’s important to get out to a good start. Going on the road, it’s the Braves that are on the receiving end on the run line, but favored to cover. On the money line, both teams are set at an equal -110.

The 2012 World Series favorites, the Philadelphia Phillies, get their season going at 1:35pm ET on the road today against the Pittsburgh Pirates. A lot is obviously expected from Philadelphia this season, and you can guess that the Phillies are the favorites today against the Pirates. Philadelphia is a -190 favorite to win the game, while Pittsburgh sits at +160.

Another year at historic Wrigley Field kicks off at 2:20pm ET today, when the Chicago Cubs host the Washington Nationals, where we will see Stephen strasburg threw on opening day for the Nationals, with a lot expected of him to help the team out in 2012. And in fact, Washington is the -165 road favorite, with the Cubs at +145.

The AL East and AL Central collide at 3:05pm ET today when the Toronto Blue Jays hit the road to match up with the Cleveland Indians. The Blue Jays get the edge on the money line here, going off at -134 to win the game out right.

The new-look Miami Marlins don’t get to host their first home game just yet, going on the road to the Cincinnati Reds today at 4pm ET, with coverage on ESPN2. The Marlins are expected to be a contender in the NL East division this season, but are the road underdogs here at +135 to win the game outright, while the Reds are set at +155.

The final Opening day game gets going later this evening at 7:05pm ET, when the L.A Dodgers face the San Diego Padres in a NL West division showdown. The Dodgers are a -160 favorite on the road on the money line to win the game, while the home team Padres sit at +140.
