For the last several years it seems, we have been waiting for the Florida State Seminoles to get back to the national powerhouse for which they have been predicted. And coming into the 2012 college football season, the expectations are about the same.
And when it comes to the ACC championship betting odds this year, the Seminoles are right at the top, going off at Even money favorites to win their first conference championship since 2005.
Of course, Florida State has had high expectations for the last couple of seasons, including a preseason top-five ranking last year before ultimately losing four games throughout the season, including three-straight at one point in the year.
But with a defense that is pegged to be one of the top in the country, and a veteran quarterback, it does appear that the sky’s the limit for the Noles. But will they have the fuel to reach it?
Behind Florida State are the two teams that played in the ACC Championship game in 2011. The Virginia Tech Hokies and the Clemson Tigers follow the Seminoles as the top favorites to win the ACC.
The Hokies have been the most dominant team in the ACC of the last five years, winning three ACC titles during that time. Virginia Tech comes in at 3/1 to win another one. But the road to a title will be challenging, which includes a home date against Florida State In November in what could be an ACC title game preview.
Then we have the defending ACC champion Tigers, who are predicted to be a contender in their follow-up season. Clemson is going off at 5/1 on the betting line to win a second-straight conference championship.
Behind these top-three favorites, the odds spike significantly, all the way down to Duke and Maryland at 100/1. Clearly oddsmakers are favoring a top-heavy ACC this season, in a three-headed race. Of course stranger things have happened, and teams like Miami, Georgia Tech and others will be looking to pull of the surprises.
